TRIBUTE TO THE GREATEST ANIMATOR AND TV PRESENTER IN
BRAZIL José Abelardo Barbosa de Medeiros (Surubim,
September 30, 1917 - Rio de Janeiro, June 30, 1988), the
Chacrinha was a great communicator and radio considered
the greatest of television in Brazil, as host of talk
shows, huge success of the years 1950 to 1980. He
authored the famous phrase: "On television, nothing is
created, everything is copied." In his television
programs, were revealed to the whole country names like
Roberto Carlos, Paulo Sergio and Raul, among many others.
Since the 1970s was called the Old Warrior, as homage to
him by Gilberto Gil, who he referred to well-known

Born in Surubim and 10 years old, moved with his family
to Campina Grande, Paraíba. At 17, he studied in Recife.
He began to attend medical school in 1936, and at 3
years in 1937, had his first contact with the radio on
Radio Club of Pernambuco to give a lecture on alcoholism.

music called Carnival King Momo in Chacrinha, which was

"Chacrinha" Barbosa. In the 1950's command the program

In 1956 he made his television debut with the program
Rancho Alegre, TV Tupi, which began making the nightclub

hired by Globo. Came to make two weekly programs: Horn

Achieved great popularity with its programs for freshmen,
in which the patient was funny and flashy clothes,

employing a sardonic humor, using slogans and phrases

there were Carlos Imperial, Aracy de Almeida, Rogério,
Elke Maravilha and Pedro de Lara, among many others.
Another element to the success of television programs
were the Rockettes - dancers, who were quite simple and
ingenious choreography to accompany the songs. Besides
the rehearsed choreography, the dancers were given
exotic names and flamboyant as Rita Cadillac, Amazonian
Indian, Fatima Boa Viagem, Suely Pingo de Oro, Fernando

At first they were known as vitamins Chacrinha. The most

Cadillac.
Chacrinha appeared in Brazilian films of the 1960s and
1970s, usually playing himself. In the movie The Wave of
the Ee-yeh-yeh, 1966, he staged his talent show "The
Moment of Horn", aired on TV Excelsior. Among the
freshmen, were Paulo Sérgio (as himself) and Silvio
Cesar (who played the character Cesar Silva). Chacrinha
says several of its slogans: "Go to the throne or not?",

other fun phrases when he says "Thank God the program
ended," or "Some freshmen leave here factory employed

Each year, launched a program on your marching for

Sarney.

programs by Paulo Silvino. Returning to the scene, in

feel strong again.
Died on June 30, 1988 at 23.30 myocardial infarction and
respiratory failure (he had lung cancer) at age 70.
The latest Casino Chacrinha program aired on July 2,
1988.
