Flooding in Santa Catarina in 2008 occurred after the period of heavy rains during the month of November 2008, affecting around 60 cities and more than 1.5 million people in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. 135 people dead, 2 missing, 9,390 people were forced from their homes so that there were more victims and 5,617 homeless. A number of 150,000 were without electricity and there was still rationing of water that was being carried by trucks in at least one city due to problems in purification. Several cities in the region were left without access because of flooding, debris and landslides. On November 25, 2008, the Mayor of Blumenau, Kleinubing John Paul declared a state of calamity in the city, [3] [4] as done in other thirteen counties. Moreover, sixty cities in the state are under state of emergency. During floods, the Port of Itajai had largely destroyed the berths. The water level in the Itajai Valley came up to 11.52 m above the normal level. The plots that received rainfall equivalent to a thousand gallons of water per square meter, will take at least six months to stabilize. Meanwhile, the soil will remain unstable and prone to landslides. The floods led to the creation of a technical group to promote scientific studies for the prevention of natural disasters in the new estado.JNL, sent several letters to many cities there and warned about these rains since 2004, these letters tells of dates and problems severe that the region would face extreme droughts in some regions and flooding and other devastation. He made several contacts with officials there. In 2007, he was criticized by some, where they said JNL, was causing panic and fear in the population, but instead he was born in Parana and He wanted to somehow protect the innocent, his only goal as an environmentalist and humanitarian. Finally the time came to show the truth and put their concerns about 2007 onwards, showing in his own statements that the situation would get worse,it was what came to pass in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
