Flooding in Santa Catarina in 2008
occurred after the period of heavy rains during the month of
November 2008, affecting
around 60 cities and more than 1.5 million people in the state of
Santa Catarina, Brazil. 135 people dead, 2 missing, 9,390 people
were forced from their homes so that there were more victims and
5,617 homeless. A number of 150,000 were without electricity and
there was still rationing of water that was being carried by trucks
in at least one city due to problems in purification. Several cities
in the region were left without access because of flooding, debris
and landslides. On November 25, 2008, the Mayor of Blumenau,
Kleinubing John Paul declared a state of calamity in the city, [3]
[4] as done in other thirteen counties. Moreover, sixty cities in
the state are under state of emergency. During floods, the Port of
Itajai had largely destroyed the berths. The water level in the
Itajai Valley came up to 11.52 m above the normal level. The plots
that received rainfall equivalent to a thousand gallons of water per
square meter, will take at least six months to stabilize. Meanwhile,
the soil will remain unstable and prone to landslides. The floods
led to the creation of a technical group to promote scientific
studies for the prevention of natural disasters in the new estado.JNL,
sent several letters to many cities there and warned about these
rains since 2004, these letters tells of dates and problems severe
that the region would face extreme droughts in some regions and
flooding and other devastation. He made several contacts with
officials there. In 2007, he was criticized by some, where they said
JNL, was causing panic and fear in the population, but instead he
was born in Parana and He wanted to somehow protect the innocent,
his only goal as an environmentalist and humanitarian. Finally the
time came to show the truth and put their concerns about 2007
onwards, showing in his own statements that the situation would get
worse,it was what came to pass in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. And JNL,
warns of the seriousness of the problem and explains that the
situation is getting worse at the beginning and end of 2011, 2012,
2013 and so on ...
